The announcement that the NBA could hold a H-O-R-S-E competition televised on ESPN makes the idea of Chicago Bulls PG Coby White participating really fun.

Surprisingly enough, the Chicago Bulls have a good amount of players capable of hitting a lot of looks from deep. You wouldn’t think that the Bulls have a lot of good outside shooters given the team’s 34.8 three-point shooting percentage (which ranks 24th in the NBA this season), but they do. Head coach Jim Boylen deserves some of the fault for having poor floor spacing at times in the season that is currently placed on hiatus due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Although the COVID-19 outbreak has and continues to dominate the news cycle is almost every phase of life, including sports, there are efforts from the NBA to pass the time. The league put on an NBA 2K players-only tournament that started on April 3, featuring 16 higher profile players squaring off against each other and televised live on ESPN.

Of those competing in the NBA 2K players-only tournament, Bulls shooting guard Zach LaVine was ousted in the first round by Phoenix Suns center DeAndre Ayton. Apparently LaVine doesn’t venture to 2K all that much despite his avid gamer status.

This NBA 2K tournament also featured big names around the league such as Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant, Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young, and Suns shooting guard Devin Booker. The tournament will continue throughout the weekend.

The NBA and ESPN are working on televising a H-O-R-S-E competition involving several high-profile players, sources say. Players would shoot in isolation – presumably in home gyms – and match shots against competitors. Details are still being finalized.

However, it does appear that the next big event that the NBA puts on in the midst of this COVID-19-induced hiatus could already be in the works. ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported on April 4 on his Twitter timeline that the league and ESPN “are working on televising a H-O-R-S-E competition involving several high-profile players”.

The players would shoot in isolation and match other spots from made shots by the competitors. He also put in his tweet that the “details are still being finalized”.

This could be a pretty fun way to continue to pass the time for basketball fans around the country. The opportunity to catch players at least shooting around again in some form of competition offers content of a similar entertainment level to the players-only 2K tournament.

As far as the Bulls go, who would be the player that the fan base would most love to see represent if this team has someone chosen to participate?

Chicago Bulls Maillot,A name that comes to mind again is LaVine, but he already competed in the 2K players-only tournament and lost in his first game. That would leave someone like power forward Lauri Markkanen, small forward Otto Porter Jr., or rookie point guard Coby White as names that could stick out in a selection process.

But given that Markkanen and OPJ struggled with injuries and other on-court performance inconsistencies this season, and the way that White finished up heading into the hiatus, the latter of the three seems like a great choice. White won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month honors in February. He was the last one to do so in the East heading into the hiatus.

White is also adept to getting creative on his shot selection and creation. He’s got an insane burst to the rim and a lethal stepback shot. There would be a lot of tools in his arsenal if he were to compete in an event like this one.

On his rookie campaign so far, White is averaging 13.2 points per game, with a true shooting percentage of 50.6. But he was starting to really find his groove in the last month before the hiatus. For most of January, he was shooting around 32-33 percent from beyond the arc. He is now up to 35.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc on the season 65 games in.
